Anyway, today was a beautiful spring day, most of which was spent outside with my various brothers - watching the little ones play and swing and chase each other, and watching the older one and Dad work on repairing the damage that this winter wreaked on our poor lawn. It was wonderful to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine! Although my allergies are making me pay for my pleasure a bit ... ;-)
I've been thinking a lot today about improving my health, fitness, and diet. As a general rule, I live a terribly sedentary life, now that I work a desk job and only have to walk a few minutes in between classes. In addition to my lack of exercise, I eat a lot of sugar and carbs, and I don't sleep very much. I wouldn't classify myself as "unhealthy" or "overweight" by any means, but I don't have very much energy, and I have more unnecessary body fat than I would like. My goals in instituting a health/fitness routine would be to slim down my problem areas, tone overall, and maintain a healthier diet that will give me more energy.
I started this week with some exercise, beginning a 15-minute dumbbell routine for my flappy arms, and starting the planking challenge with a 30-second plank every day. I'll also be doing some reading on how to get my diet back on track while maintaining a budget and eating flavorful foods that will keep me awake during long, quiet stints in an empty lab. :-)
Tonight, though, I'm feeling a little tired and feverish and I have a long, early day ahead of me tomorrow, so I'm going to sign off for now. Tomorrow I need to get my mind back in gear for finals and grad school applications!
Hugs,
Vicki
