I haven't figured out this whole "dynamic views" thing, but apparently you have to click on these entries if you want to see them with their correct formatting ... okay ...

Anyway, this is a strong, motivational song that's been carrying me through my final projects this week (it's a little "harder" rock than I normally listen to, so be warned if you prefer to stay way from rock - I wouldn't want to offend anyone!):

Rip it off, show the symbol on your chest, say
Come on, and show the world who you really are
It's not enough to be better than the rest
You gotta take it to the top to make yourself a superstar ...

We can change the whole world, gonna take it over
Gonna start it over, don't you know what we can be

A new beginning, fight until we're winning
Tell me that you're in it
Don't you wanna be
A superhero?

Anybody can be
A superhero

~ Simon Curtis

^  That's what I call finals motivation.  :-)

If it hadn't been for my sister Heather, I never in a million years would have listened to Owl City (or any of Adam Young's previous incarnations either, for that matter). But she got hooked on his music over the winter and shared it with me, and I have to say, it definitely provides a quick pick-me-up on days when I'm feeling lazy and unmotivated.

It's always nice to discover other Christians in completely unexpected places. This song, "Galaxies," has also been a particular inspiration to me:

Are there any bands that you never thought you'd listen to, but you do?

I would give anything to be able to turn from a Prince Hal into a King Henry ... to have a moment where I say, "yes, now I leave it all behind. I shed the drunkenness (Internet overdosing), the bad companions (people I hang out with who aren't getting me where I want to go), and the ratty old clothes, and hereafter I shall be more myself."

I can. It's not impossible.
Going to bed and getting up and getting to WORK in the morning would be a great start.  :-)

I'm so sorry I disappeared!! I've been drowning in schoolwork lately, and self-medicating my tiredness with Facebook games instead of coming to blog ... totally unacceptable ... I will try to get back on track.

Thoughts for this evening:

I love you guys!!

My sensory system is recuperating from watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier with my brother and sister this evening ... I've never seen a movie that violent before, and my head is pounding! That being said, however, there were all kinds of good things going on in it and I really enjoyed it. Captain America is the best!!  :-)

Those of you who follow me on Pinterest ... I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened. I just ... one Tom Hiddleston pin led to another, and then Pinterest suggested I look at Josh Groban pins, and suddenly I was launched into a full-scale fangirl attack. This hasn't happened for a very long time, and I hope it doesn't happen again for another very long time.

Off to go look at graduate programs and be serious ...

I am so glad it's the weekend!! Besides homework and going to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier this weekend, my project is to finish reading this book:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Power-Style-Everything-Tomorrow/dp/006221974X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396667387&sr=8-1&keywords=the+power+of+style+bobbie+thomas

... and try to apply some of the style tips found in it. It's been a great read so far - it focuses on using clothing and style as a mode of expressing your personality, rather than prescribing expensive clothes or teaching you to flaunt your body. I look forward to learning how to incorporate some different clothing items into my wardrobe this summer and better project my personality! I'd like to do a post on Sunshine and Shadow when I've experimented on my own and gotten some tips.

Speaking of personality, I want to learn to hold onto my personality better when I'm surrounded with people who are very different than me. I work with an office full of girls who are loud, cheerful, opinionated, and funny; and the office is always full of lively banter and joking. Unfortunately, as I struggle to keep up with their outspoken style, I usually end up saying things that are un-Christian and don't represent my faith or my real feelings. I want to learn to slow down and take time to think before I speak, so I can stay true to my natural communication style and say what will glorify Christ.

And finally, my most important plan for the weekend is to SLEEP ... I need more than 4 hours of sleep every night!! As soon as this movie's over, I'm off to get started on that project right away!  :-)

Love,
Vicki

I really don't know what's been wrong with me the last couple of days ... I have felt so listless and sad, with absolutely zero energy or motivation. The last two nights, I've passed out asleep in the middle of completing assignments; and during the days, all I've had motivation to do in my spare time is walk around in the cold mist and think about nothing. Physically I feel fine, just maybe a little more tired than usual; but there is some kind of apathy coming from somewhere inside me and drugging me into utter torpor.

I'm watching WarGames with my sibs and puttering slowly through answering emails ... maybe that will help.  :-)

~ Vicki

Edited to add: I just finished WarGames, and due to all of its bad language I really can't recommend it to you to watch. HOWEVER, I felt that I had to leave its name in my post; because as a movie about computer nerds fighting for peace, it is probably the most epic movie I have ever seen!!

I have become rather obsessed with people's eyes lately ... they can tell you so much about the person's character and personality. Do you recognize any of my favorites?
